2012 Seasonal Staff

Wolfe's Neck Farm is incredibly proud of our seasonal educators.  We bring educators on board each Spring, Summer and Fall to engage kids with the farm, forest, and sea.  They lead hands-on explorations of our ecosystems, work in the barn and gardens, and have loads of fun. Summer Camp Director Chrissy Miner just finished her first year of teaching in Strong, ME. She received her B.S. from the University of Maine Farmington in Elementary Education in 2009. She then moved to Bainbridge Island, WA where she worked as a Field Instructor and Lead Camp Educator for an outdoor school called Islandwood. While in Washington, Chrissy completed her Master's in Education with a focus in Curriculum and Instruction. While not working at the farm Chrissy enjoys hiking, camping, biking and playing rugby! 2012 Summer Camp Staff: Maranda Duval grew up in the town of Brunswick, Maine and earned her Environmental Studies degree from Skidmore College in upstate New York. While at Skidmore, Maranda researched local food policies, recorded a CD with her a capella group, worked as a short-order cook, and started singing opera. Most recently, she worked as an outdoor educator in California, leading hikes, singing songs, and teaching hands-on ecology. She is thrilled to return to the east coast for summertime adventures on the farm! Trey Copenhaver is from Staunton, VA and currently lives in Brunswick. He graduated in May from the Virginia Military Institute with a BA in English, and a minor in education. He has experience working at outdoor camps and teaching, and also as a Boy Scout Leader. Trey enjoys participating in historical reenactments and loves to explore the rich history of Wolfe's Neck Farm with his campers. Hannah Hastings is from Durham, Connecticut and received her BA in Earth and Environmental Science from Wesleyan University. Since graduation Hannah has done two years of AmeriCorps in Boston, taught Outdoor Education in California, and ran after school science programs in Wisconsin. A camper for life, she has over six summers of experience working at residential camps across the country, from Washington DC to Seattle. Crafting, canoeing, and singing are some of her favorite things to do at camp, and you know she's had a good day when at the end of the day she has a hoarse voice and muddy clothes. Morgan Kerr is an elementary school teacher from Islesboro, Maine. When on the farm he loves exploring the woods searching for mushrooms and other treasures that may be hiding under a decomposing log and hanging out with the ever curious goats. When not at the farm, you can usually find him somewhere with a surfboard or banjo in tow. Andy LeClerc is originally from Weymouth, Massachusetts. Andy graduated Unity College in 2009 with a degree in Outdoor Adventure Education and Leadership. Since graduation he has been working for various overnight camps, guiding self-supported extended adventure trips such as canoeing the Allagash River, hiking along the AT, and road bicycling through Nova Scotia. During college he was a TA for a variety of courses, including Rock Climbing, White Water Canoeing, Challenge Course Construction and Operation, and leadership courses to help develop the leadership capabilities of younger students. Andy completed an internship for New England Wildlife Medical and Rehabilitation Center, working with sick or injured animals, and worked for Massachusetts Audubon doing wildlife education programs and working for their summer camps. Caroline Engwer is returning from the 2010 summer camp season. Many of you may remember as a nurturing and fun counselor to Peapods. Caroline will again be spending her summer with the Peapods group this year, caring for our youngest group of campers. Caroline teaches for Wolfe's Neck Farm programs during the school year, as well as coaching softball and tutoring students. Caroline graduated from UNE in The Spring of 2010. Erin Bray is a registered Maine Guide and comes to us from the Maine Outdoor Education Program in Calais and Millinocket, Maine, where she led middle school students on canoeing and hiking trips. Erin also worked with Kids Peace New England where she worked one on one with children with Spectrum Autism Disorder. In her spare time Erin enjoys paddling and hiking the beautiful and natural places of Maine. Sandy Gilbreath is returning for a second summer at Wolfe's Neck Farm. From South Portland, Maine, Sandy never passes up an opportunity to get super muddy down in the marsh while looking for the plants and wildlife that call it home. In the wintertime she enjoys snowboarding; in the summer, any outside activity suits her just fine. Sandy attended University of Southern Maine. Kendray Welsh is a graduate of Hollins University with a BA in Creative Writing. She comes to Wolfe's Neck Farm with over a decade of experience in the camp and outdoor education fields. A transplant to Maine from points south of the Mason-Dixon, she enjoys confounding campers with her use of the word ya'll. Her hobbies included reading, writing, acting and hula hooping!
