In the past year, the Wolfe’s Neck Farm community has lost two beloved and important members of our family.  We will honor their memory by presenting two new awards in their names at our Evening with the Farm event.

1968-69-charlie-degrandpre-counting-haybales-2The Charlie DeGrandpre Lifetime Service Award will be given to an individual who has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the farm through years of dedicated support of our mission and programs.  Charlie, an innovator in the organic farming movement, was hired by the Smith family in 1968 as WNF’s  manager. He worked at WNF nearly his whole life, teaching young people sustainable farming practices and sharing his knowledge with farmers across southern Maine.

PA182589The Judy Higbea Excellence in Education Award will be given to an individual who, like Judy, has demonstrated a commitment to education: traditional and/or experiential. Judy was a long time volunteer and board member at the farm, as well as a pivotal figure in the Freeport schools. She combined her deep passion for agriculture with her gift as an educator to inspire and inform thousands of visitors to the farm.
