Wolfe’s Neck Farm Summer Day Camp gives kids ages 4-14 an opportunity to explore, learn and play on our 626 acre historic saltwater farm with animals, fields, forests and ocean.
Kids spend their days joyfully learning in the barn and gardens – cooking and eating food they helped to grow, exploring the forest and shoreline, getting exercise through hiking and playing games with new friends, creating arts and crafts, carrying out science experiments and many other hands-on activities. They learn how to grow foods using sustainable methods (and why it’s important!), and take part in farming activities including caring for our lambs, pigs, goats, chickens, rabbits and more.
Older children learn the basics of water safety and climb into canoes to explore the estuaries and calm waters of Casco Bay (weather and tides permitting). They learn to identify many residents of our unique habitat, including osprey, heron and the occasional bald eagle! Farmward Bound groups (grades 6-9) spend Thursdays paddling out to a remote part of the farm’s 4 miles of shoreline, setting up camp, and enjoying a good old-fashioned overnight camp-out along the shore.
Our oceanfront nonprofit farm is located just 5 miles from downtown Freeport, L.L. Bean and I-295, and is a short 30 minute drive from Portland.
Families from further away can enroll in our Camp & Camp Program, so the whole family can stay at our award-winning oceanfront campground while the kids are at camp (and enjoy the 15% discount, too!) This gives the whole family an opportunity to enjoy an authentic Maine experience, and gives parents free time to explore Freeport’s 100+ shops and restaurants, too.
Summer Camp runs weekly from June 23-August 29, 2014
