Crews: Each camper belongs to a "Crew" of their own. These crews consist of around ten campers, their "Crew Leader" (Counselors) and a Junior Counselor. Together, crews start their day by storing their lunches and backpacks in their cubbies, applying sunscreen and bug spray and making sure everyone has the necessary items for a successful day.

Barn Chores: Each Crew has a set of chores they do each day. Every day of the week there is a different chore for each Crew. Chores may bring campers into the chicken coop to collect eggs and fill nesting boxes with straw, it may bring them to the garden to pick vegetables and pull a few weeds, or water the raised beds. Whatever the chore for the day, it's always a fun opportunity to interact with the animals or get dirty in the garden.

Morning Exploration: After Barn Chores, Crews travel out for their Morning Exploration. Like chores, there is a different Exploration every morning, including: the forest, the salt marsh, the shoreline, the meadow and Vegetable Fields. These Morning Explorations are an opportunity for crews to explore and investigate these unique areas of our diverse saltwater farm.

Snack Time Theatre: After Morning Exploration, all the crews reconvene for a healthy snack (which we ask campers to bring in their lunch boxes.) Along with a healthy snack, snack time brings Snack Time Theatre! STT is a time when Crew Leaders take to the stage to combine education and silliness to get the kids laughing and reflecting on what they're doing and learning at Wolfe's Neck Farm.

Activity Choice Circle: During an Activity Choice Circle each Crew Leader offers an activity for campers to choose from. Each camper listens to all the activities the counselors are offering and makes a decision about which one to choose. This allows campers to meet up with friends who may have been placed in other crews, and to get to know other crew leaders than their own. Both AM and PM Activity Periods use this format, though there are new activities every activity period. Activities that are very popular are often repeated a few times during the week to ensure that all campers who want to participate in these activities have the opportunity to do so.

Example of Activities Offered During an Individual Activity Period:
  • Herpetology Hike- A walk in the woods turning over logs and looking along creek beds for reptiles and amphibians
  • Blueberry Picking and Muffin Baking- When the blueberries are in we'll pick from the bushes and bake some tasty treats for campers to enjoy!
  • Animal Showmanship- Campers can learn skills needed to show a farm animal at fairs. Grooming and halter-leading are a few of the skills taught in these activities.
  • Building Butterflies- Hunt for and identify butterflies around our garden and then head to the Haze Hut (our Arts and Crafts area) to try to replicate them with craft materials of your choice!
  • Eggstravaganza!- We're always incubating eggs at the farm and studying the cycle of an egg can be very eggciting! In this activity campers study how hens lay eggs, the care they take for making sure they hatch and candling eggs at different stages in their development.
  • Making Flower Presses- Campers will learn the basics of learning to press and dry flowers, making their own presses to take home to start their own collections of preserved flowers.
  • Canoeing the Little River (only offered for Farm Kids)- Every Farm Kid should have the experience of paddling the Little River. On this adventure a Certified Lifeguard will teach basic paddling skills before the campers even leave dry land. In canoes the campers will explore the salt marsh as they work their way around the easy flowing river behind the farm house.
Certain Activity periods are also set aside for all-camp activities. These may include a large game of Predator vs. Prey (an interactive game that demonstrates this natural relationship in nature), a Wolfe's Neck Farm Olympics, or Waterpalooza (an array of water stations to help us keep cool on a hot summer day), to name a few.
